Keep Me in Your Heart
My brother, Stephen.
For a while, Stephen drifted away from Walnut Street. I suppose each of my brothers and I did at one time or another, some of us more distant than others. We all found our way back. None of us returned all at once. It was off and on, a few of us at a time, as if we were taking turns coming back to Walnut Street. Getting all of us under one roof at the same time just didn’t happen.
Then somewhere a long the way, something changed with Stephen and me. I can’t pinpoint the exact day or year the distance between us began to disappear. I remember clearly one Sunday evening on Walnut Street when we huddled on the floor and watched the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show, our noses practically touching the tiny television screen. But I can’t remember the particular day when Stephen and I began talking, not as brother and sister, but as two adults who found their way back to each other.
How now, brown cow.
